Can you upgrade the equipments to provide ADSL2 service for the users who are located far away from the exchange?

Exetel has limited ownership to work out this as our suppliers are fully responsible of this part of the equipment and also it is not very flexible to implement this change due to the high cost.

Rapid Transfer/ Churn

What is Rapid Transfer/Churn?

This is the process of transferring a service when you are moving from one ADSL2 provider to another ADSL2 provider while using the same supplier. With the ADSL2 - Optus services the current provider should be providing the service via Optus DSLAM's / equipment.

Who are the other providers using the same infrastructure (Optus ADSL2 copper network)?

Please call your ADSL provider to confirm whether you are connected to the Optus ADSL2 copper network (via an OPTUS DSLAM). Other providers who are using the same infrastructure include:

  • AMCOM
  • DODO
  • EFTEL
  • ENGIN
  • GNODE
  • GO TALK
  • INTERNODE
  • ISEEK
  • ISPPHONE
  • ISPONE
  • SPIN INTERNET
  • WESTNET

I tried relocating my service but I was told I have to get a new phone line set up at the new house. If I set up a Telstra phone line and then switch to Exetel does Telstra charge an early termination charge?

The requirement for an active telephone line upon a relocation request is generally because, if Exetel’s supplier(Optus) is unable to locate any copper based on the most recent database records, the path allocated may not be able to be determined.

Yes - Telstra charge an ETC if it's moved within the first 3 months and in this case you may need a temporary line installed. Therefore a temporary line is required which can then be why a subsequent ETC is payable to them, upon the temporary line termination. However, it's best that you check with the telephony service provider if an Early Cancellation Charge would be applicable.

Is there any downtime when transferring the telephone line from my current provider to Exetel?

There may be a possible downtime of 15 minutes to 48 hours.

I am on ADSL1/ADSL2 with another provider and my phone is through Telstra. What happens to my ADSL when I transfer my phone service to Exetel?

This is a bundle ADSL connection. There's no option to transfer only the telephone line to an Optus Bundle plan.

What else apart from my Billable account number and Phone Service provider information do I need to transfer to Exetel Phone?

This is all you need. Exetel will do the rest in transferring your telephony service.

My Phone line is provided by another company on non-telstra equipment. Can I still transfer to Exetel? How long would this take and is there any delay?

This is dependent upon certain factors. It is always best to contact provisioning@exetel.com.au once your order has gone through to confirm eligibility should your service not be on Telstra equipment

If I want to port away from Exetel telephone how long will this take? Does Exetel 'hold' the line or is the gaining carrier responsible?

Time frames would be dependent on type of Port. If it is over the Telstra network (i.e to another Telstra provider) then this is approximately around 3-5 business days. If this is over Non-Telstra equipment then the gaining carrier will may take up to 10 working days to complete this transfer.

Connection to ADSL Service

If you are using a modem provided by Exetel you should have received it before your line is activated. Whether or not you are sourcing your modem from Exetel you will receive an email with your user name and password and other set up information.

If you require more detailed assistance you should get that from the manual that comes with your modem or a knowledgeable friend. Some guidance is provided on either the Exetel User Help Forum click here, our Wiki contains some modems, located here, or in the advice to be found on the left hand side of this page. It is very straight forward to set up an ADSL modem but if none of these aids is sufficient you will need to pay for a computer professional to assist you complete this task.

Exetel has agents in every capital city of Australia, and many regional areas. If you need help you might consider calling one of these agents who will charge you to install your ADSL connection. Search for an agent.

If the 'Link' or 'ADSL' light is not steady, then it might not be activated yet, or an issue might have developed. In this case (approximately 10% of all ADSL activations) you need to call Exetel and get the support engineers to get the wholesale provider to confirm and fix the problem.

Things to Consider Before Your Line is Activated

If you have multiple telephone handsets connecting to the line you are going to use for ADSL please ensure that you have bought enough line filters – one for each item on the line that is not the ADSL modem.
