ADSL > ADSL Modem Setup Guides > Billion BiPAC 7301VGP - VOIP ONLY

Go to the wizard to start with. The settings should be as follows.

  • Voice QoS
  • DSCP MARKING: Premium
  • Settings for Phone Port 1
  • SIP SERVICE PROVIDER: 58.96.1.2
  • PHONE NUMBER: The Number (with area code) that exetel provided you when signing up for VOIP
  • AUTHENTICATION USERNAME: Same as Number
  • AUTHENTICATION PASSWORD: The password exetel provided you when signing up for VOIP
  • Click Apply and Then Save Config Then Apply.

Next go to General Settings and ensure the following are set as shown:

  • Sip Device Parameters
  • SIP: Enable
  • SILENCE SUPPRESSION(VAD) Disable
  • ECHO CANCELLATION: Enable
  • RTP PORT: 5100
  • REGION: Australia
  • VOICE QOS, DSCP MARKING: Premium
  • Settings for Phone Port 1 (DO NOT PRESS SYNC NOW YET)
  • REGISTRAR ADDRESS(OR HOSTNAME): 58.96.1.2
  • REGISTRAR PORT: 5060
  • EXPIRE: 120Seconds
  • USER DOMAIN/REALM: 58.96.1.2
  • OUTBOUND PROXY ADDRESS: 58.96.1.2
  • OUTBOUND PROXY PORT: 5060

Now Click Apply, Then Sync Now, Then Save Config and Apply.

Next Click on the Advanced Tab at the top next to Sip Device Parameters

This will open a new window. Ensure the following are set as shown.

  • VoIP THROUGH IP INTERFACE: IPWAN
  • VOICE FRAME SIZE: 20ms If your continuing to experience patchy calls or the other end can't hear you properly, consider dropping this to 10ms, although 20 should be fine.
  • DIAL PLAN PRIORITY: Mode 2 You may wish to set this to mode 0 if you are on Naked ADSL

The remaining items on this page you shouldn't need to worry about.

Press Apply, Then Press Sync Now, Then Press Apply down the bottom, then safe config, then apply.

The next page is Phone Port.

If the settings you have entered previously are correct, this should be showing as Registered in the appropriate column. If Not, go back and try again. Check your ADSL line is up first though. VOIP will not work if your adsl drops and subsequently, if you have a unreliable adsl line (regular disconnects), then you will also experience the same with VOIP.

Click on Edit (right hand side).

The main thing on this page is the Codec Choices.

Currently at time of writing this I have it set to:

  • Priority 1: g.729
  • Priority 2: PCMU (G.711 u-law)
  • Priority 3: PCMA (g.711 A-law)
  • Priority 4: Not Used.
  • DTMF Method: RFC 2833

Other Billion Models that have had troubles with voip have suggested using a single codec, with all priorities being set as the same one or only one being set and the rest as not used.
