Mobile Broadband on a Handset

I want to use Mobile Broadband on my handset? Will my handset work on it?

If you want to use Mobile Broadband on your handset, your handset needs to be compatible with 3G .

For Mobile Broadband compliant handsets, we have provided a current list of Mobile Broadband handsets here; http://www.exetel.com.au/residential-hspa-compatibility.php

My mobile handset is not on the list provided by Exetel, can it still be used for Mobile Broadband?

We advise to use compliant handsets if you need to use Mobile Broadband service on your handset; however, if you do wish to use your current handset you will have to make sure it is a 3G, 2100MHZ UTMS supported handset. Non-HSPA phones speeds are also slower (approximately 200-384Kpbs). Use with caution .

Am I able to use Mobile Broadband service on any 3G mobile?

Yes, you can use mobile broadband on any 3G mobile, however, the mobile has to be unlocked and set up accordingly.

Do Blackberrys work with Mobile Broadband service?

You will be able to make and receive calls as well as search the internet by using Mobile Broadband services on Blackberrys. However, the email function on the Blackberry will not work with this service.

Does Mobile Broadband service work through the iPhone?

Yes mobile broadband would work through the iPhone provided that it isn't locked to any network.

Which mobile broadband service can be use on the iPhone? (Voice + Data) or (Data)?

You can use Data and Voice + Data services on the iphone. Please note that the Data service would only allow for an internet service through the iPhone.

How do I set up my Mobile Broadband SIM for the iPhone?

You need to contact the Apple for instructions on how to set up your Mobile Broadband SIM for the iPhone.

How do I make/receive calls if I use my Mobile Broadband USIM in my handset?

Upon activation you will be given a mobile number to make and receive incoming calls and SMS.

What happens if

What happens if a mobile Broadband layer 2 user uses their SIM in an iPhone or iPad?

If a Layer 2 mobile broadband SIM is used in an iPhone on default Exetel/Optus APN settings, data will not work because the iPhone uses the YesINTERNET APN which is not provisioned on Layer 2 services.

If the iPhone has been jail broken so that non-standard APNs can be used then this is not supported by Exetel/Optus or Apple. All data on the Layer 2 service should go down the EXETEL1 APN. Any data traffic sent down the CONNECT APN due to jail breaking a handset & changing the default Optus APN settings will incur the high WAP data charge of $1.43 per MB. As this is a mobile broadband service, Calls & SMS may not work and could be charged at the applicable plan rate.

If a Layer 2 mobile broadband SIM is used in an iPad, the APN settings must be configured to use data over the EXETEL1 APN.

The CONNECT APN for data use must NEVER be configured or this will incur the high data charge of $1.43 per MB. Exetel/Optus does not support any kind of tethering for iPads

What happens if a mobile broadband layer 3 user uses their SIM in an android phone or tablet?

If a Layer 3 mobile broadband SIM is used in an Android Phone or Tablet, the APN settings must be configured to use data over the CONNECT APN. This will be applied at the Layer 3 mobile broadband data rate. As this is a mobile broadband service, Calls & SMS may not work and could be charged at the applicable plan rate.

If a Layer 3 mobile broadband SIM is used in a Symbian or other device, the APN settings must be configured to use data over the CONNECT APN.
