What is PSTN to VOIP?

PSTN to VOIP is a newly featured product whereby you can transfer your existing telephone number to a VOIP number. Essentially this means you can now receive and make calls via your internet connection instead of the telephony copper network with the same number.

Can I port a PSTN number to a VOIP DID?

Yes this is possible only with the Optus bundled plans.

Can I use my existing telephone number and transfer this as a VOIP number?

Yes you can. As long as this number is portable and you provide the correct account details you can transfer your existing telephone number as a VoIP number.

How do I apply for PSTN to VoIP?

Only Business customers can request PSTN to VOIP ports. Existing customers can apply using their member facilities and new customers can apply via the Exetel website using the following link: https://www.exetel.com.au/pstn_to_voip/pstn_to_voip_verify_business.php

Must I apply to port PSTN numbers to VoIP DIDs when the plans are first ordered?

Not necessarily. It's important to note that regardless of whether it is an existing Exetel PSTN service or belonging to another provider, it is a 'port' (full transfer) of service. This takes 5-10 business days.

Is the new Optus-assigned number for the landline itself portable?

Broadly speaking, normally. It actually depends on the CCA (call collection area) itself. The best way to check is to use our online SQ (service qualification) tool: https://www.exetel.com.au/pstn_to_voip/pstn_to_voip_verify_business.php

It will return either 'Enabled' or 'Not Enabled'

How long does it take for PSTN to VOIP porting ?

  • Porting individual/single number ports would be within 10 working days.
  • 100 number ranges and groups can vary however it usually takes upto 20 working days (This may change case by case).

Does PSTN to VoIP process cost anything?

Yes. There is a once off $15 charge in porting your PSTN to a VOIP Number.

My Telephone number is listed on the white pages, will this still be the case after transferring to VoIP?

Yes. PSTN (telephone line number) services once transferred as a VOIP number will still retain white pages listing status if originally the case.
